Online Eurovision Village shows Rotterdam to people around the world

Riva rents out homes to internationals

Since the world can’t come to Rotterdam during the Eurovision Song Contest, an online Eurovision Village brings Rotterdam to the world. Very useful for expats and international students who will soon be renting a house through Riva and already can get to know the city.

International guests

As the primary rental agent in Rotterdam, we want to let all our international tenants like expats and international students to get to know the city. We do this by publishing guides about the different areas and offer suggestions for sightseeing, museums and eating out for example. Because we understand that a new city can feel strange and we want our customers to feel right at home in their new environment. Because of the Eurovison Song Contest all eyes are on Rotterdam.

The same goes for Rotterdam Festivals. This local organization is responsible for festivals and wants to show the arts and culture of the city. That's why they will open the virtual doors of a Eurovision Village from 15 to 23 May. The Eurovision Village would initially take place physically on the Binnenrotte, but this is not possible due to corona.

This online Eurovision Village will be the official fan zone for this event. Talented citizens of Rotterdam will welcome people from all over the world to party with them. There are shows by the likes of Afrojack, Johnny Logan and winners of the Junior Songfestival. The online village can be visited free of charge day and night so fans can meet up around the clock.

Looks familiar

In the 3D map of Rotterdam, visitors will find detailed content about the city’s highlights. You can visit ten icons. Riva offers housing in several of the featured landmarks. Like the Markthal, de Rotterdam by Rem Koolhaas (OMA) and the Piet Blom-designed Cube Houses. Besides these three famous residential buildings, the Online Village features Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen from MVDRV, Huig Maaskant’s Euromast, the Erasmus Bridge designed by UNStudio, Hotel New York, Rotterdam Ahoy, the venue for the Eurovision Song Contest, and the Eurovision Village itself of course.

It is the first virtual experience of its kind in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest. Rotterdam Festivals, entertainment agency Tribe Company, and digital agency Dept provide the answer to the tens of thousands of visitors who would normally travel to Rotterdam with this unique virtual alternative.

Huge Party

Renske Satijn, director of Rotterdam Festivals: "Now that the world cannot come to Rotterdam, we are bringing Rotterdam to the world, that is the idea behind this unique platform. I am extremely proud that we have realized the very first online version in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest. The Eurovision Village is free of charge for fans and music lovers from all over the world. With more people than ever, we will make it a huge party together!''
