Modern residential area

The Lloydkwartier used to be a real port area but it’s being redeveloped into a modern new residential area with the reuse of existing monuments like 25KV, A disused transformer building converted into a multi-company building with a striking new glass facade, and new architecture.

Opposite quarter you’ll find the Scheepvaartkwartier and it’s located between the Westzeedijk, the Parkhaven, the Nieuwe Maas and the Schiehaven. The Lloyd Pier and the Muller Pier are the two defining piers in the Lloyd Quarter.

High-quality living environment

The Lloydkwartier owes its name to the Rotterdamsche Lloyd, a shipping company that was established in Rotterdam between 1883 and 1970. In 1970 it merged with a number of other Dutch shipping companies to form the Nederlandsche Scheepvaart Unie, known from 1977 as Nedlloyd. The former headquarters are still located on the pier.

After Lloyd and other port companies left the pier the area is being transformed to a high-quality living environment where people live and work. Numerous warehouses liek the monumental St Jobsveem are already redeveloped into lofts

Several projects inspired by the monumental storehouses are already in use and hundreds of new-build homes will appear on the quays in the district.

Informal eateries

As a result of the growing number of inhabitants several restaurants operate in the area. The famous chef Herman den Blijker operates Goud. Goud means Gold so it’s no surprise the interior has a lavish golden appearance. It’s a restaurant and cocktailbar.

Rauwdouwer, Verhip and De Machinist are a couple of restaurants offering nice food in nice ambiances. De Machinist used to be a college. Students learned all about shipping and transportation. Nowadays it’s a restaurant, a pub, escape rooms and the halls can be rented for parties. During the summer The Machinist opens viskantine on the parking lot. A pop up fish

Stroom is also a building with a history. It used to be a power station. Next to a hotel it’s restaurant with an open-plan bar, café and deli, and a rooftop terrace for warmer days.

Just on the other side of the Westzeedijk, close to the tram stop and tucked away on the Pieter de Hoochstraat you'll find a nice little pizza place.

When there are higher temperatures locals flock together at the adjacent Lloyd Multiplein. Because It has several football and basketball courts. Sporty people can play a game of pick up basketball or football.

The big square is also the place for fairs and festivals.

The Maaspodium is a theatrical location with an everchanging and cultural dynamic. It’s the home of Maas, a theater and company made up out of professional makers. Maas makes theater- and dance experiences for children, teenagers, young adults and their family and friends. Next to the plays by Maas there is also room (The Maaspodium offers two beautiful theatre halls, a foods and services area, a party location and an outside terrain) for international visit guest-performances. Building the future

Just around the block Little C is being build. A project resembling New York. On the piers there’s still room for new apartments. At the moment Babel, Stack and Eden District are in development. So who knows. Maybe in the future we can offer more apartments in this cool, calm and collected area.
